week 8

Here is the end!! I have enjoyed this course as it has encouraged the trial of many new online resources which I normally would not have taken the time to try.

For week 8 I created a Doodle Poll inviting someone to the end of the course party!!! This site will be very useful when planning the summer family bbq which I host.  It will be an easy way to touch base with family throughout Ontario and beyond. I feel it could be a fun way to invite and touch base with co workers by planning social gatherings, staff meetings or training events.  However I do feel that the internal email system would still be easier.

Well until next time!!!

Week 7

I had fun trying a new site that I had never taken time to explore before LibraryThing.  I reviewed a couple of books and added a couple others to my shelf.  I will be taking some time to browse other people reviews on a list of books that I have that I thought I may like to read one day.  I will be using this site more!!!

Check it out it is a cool site!

Week 6

I added two website links to the course Wikis:

  1.  a quick fun test to see if you should be a Librarian it was fun to complete and results were also interesting.
  2.  article regarding Library story times developing early literacy skills in children; as a children's programmer I found the article has some interesting points however some program examples could of been useful.

" Literacy development can be greatly enhanced by simple interactions. Repeated reading

of rhymes, poems, or stories with rhyming words help children notice sound patterns.

Clapping out syllables in their names or characters in a book helps children begin to

separate sounds in words. Other fun games include searching for things on a page that

begin with the “n” sound or singing songs like “Willoughby Wolloughby Woo” to

heighten awareness of speech sounds…Libraries are well suited to provide this amount of

instruction as part of existing programming” (Arnold, 2003)."

Week 5

I located library pictures on Flickr - Stratford Public Library, the many pictures showed the summer reading program, children having fun, special events that the library held and much more.  The pictures are a great way of showing others how much fun you can have at the library; libraries no longer mean quiet silent reading.  Library means social time, fun, new experiences and time with friends and families

I  watched a video on youtube called "Forest of Reading Promotional Video".  It was a quick video showing title in the Forest of Reading program and what the program is.

Photo and film sharing is becoming more popular and may be a great avenue to get information to new Patrons and current patrons, pictures of new technology or programming fun may encourage others to give it a try

Week 4

Week 4! Visiting Pinterest one of my favorite places to find craft ideas for work. It was great setting up a board to post things, I will conitiue to repin and pin things to my boards for future reference. I find with sites such as Pinterst what I see today that I like or might use I can never find again tomorrow, by repinning ideas it should solve this problem. I have thought about how pinterest could be used in the library setting and I am not confident that I have a relevent answer. Possibly used to advertise upcoming events by pinning what crafts or books will be used, or to advertise new material to the collection? I would love to hear others ideas about how it could be successfully used in the library setting.

Week 3

Here is week 3 comments as a new post instead of a comment under Week 1 post!! Week 3!! Twitter was easy to set up and even easier to locate people and groups to follow!! Will I continue to update tweets? I hope to find the time to check on the account periodically however I do not see the need or have the desire to download the Twitter app to my phone. Maybe at a later date when I have free time to sit and browse on the internet I can look into the many useful features that Twitter has to offer. RSS feeds honestly had no idea what they were until this assignment. I have signed into the SOLS & Library news feed and found the information interesting. I will have to start looking to see what other websites offer RSS feeds. Twitter and RSS feeds could be useful in a library setting as it offers a quick reference to patrons as to the upcoming events and news of the library. Easy to track and user friendly!!

Week 2

Well after 4 weeks of this course I realized that I am to make a new post for each week not just comment on the original post!!! Another learning curve along the way; so here is the comments that I have made regarding each week only as a new post instead of a comment!!! 1. Well I have tried this a few times this week and it never appears to published I got a quick comment to work so here I am again trying to complete assignment 2. When I looked at assignment 2 I realized it was easy (other then posting again in this BLOG) I am already an active user of facebook, LinkedIn and when I started this blog last week I set up a google circle of friends. I did take some time this week to look at some of the suggested weblinks. Well week 2 comments done lets hope week 3 BLOG comments are easier then this week.
