week 8

Here is the end!! I have enjoyed this course as it has encouraged the trial of many new online resources which I normally would not have taken the time to try.

For week 8 I created a Doodle Poll inviting someone to the end of the course party!!! This site will be very useful when planning the summer family bbq which I host.  It will be an easy way to touch base with family throughout Ontario and beyond. I feel it could be a fun way to invite and touch base with co workers by planning social gatherings, staff meetings or training events.  However I do feel that the internal email system would still be easier.

Well until next time!!!

Week 7

I had fun trying a new site that I had never taken time to explore before LibraryThing.  I reviewed a couple of books and added a couple others to my shelf.  I will be taking some time to browse other people reviews on a list of books that I have that I thought I may like to read one day.  I will be using this site more!!!

Check it out it is a cool site!

Week 6

I added two website links to the course Wikis:

  1.  a quick fun test to see if you should be a Librarian it was fun to complete and results were also interesting.
  2.  article regarding Library story times developing early literacy skills in children; as a children's programmer I found the article has some interesting points however some program examples could of been useful.

" Literacy development can be greatly enhanced by simple interactions. Repeated reading

of rhymes, poems, or stories with rhyming words help children notice sound patterns.

Clapping out syllables in their names or characters in a book helps children begin to

separate sounds in words. Other fun games include searching for things on a page that

begin with the “n” sound or singing songs like “Willoughby Wolloughby Woo” to

heighten awareness of speech sounds…Libraries are well suited to provide this amount of

instruction as part of existing programming” (Arnold, 2003)."

Week 5

I located library pictures on Flickr - Stratford Public Library, the many pictures showed the summer reading program, children having fun, special events that the library held and much more.  The pictures are a great way of showing others how much fun you can have at the library; libraries no longer mean quiet silent reading.  Library means social time, fun, new experiences and time with friends and families

I  watched a video on youtube called "Forest of Reading Promotional Video".  It was a quick video showing title in the Forest of Reading program and what the program is.

Photo and film sharing is becoming more popular and may be a great avenue to get information to new Patrons and current patrons, pictures of new technology or programming fun may encourage others to give it a try
